What is meditation
Meditation is a conscious form of relaxation. A state of complete awareness that helps you to find your inner center. But what does it exactly mean?
Perhaps you are familiar with the following situation: You are still at work and have a lot to do there. After work, you have private things to do. Shopping, gym, maybe picking up the kids from music class or just meeting friends.
So your head is constantly busy doing several things at once. Organize, plan and do spontaneous work. These things are often part of everyday life today. So it can't hurt to consciously switch off. This is exactly what is possible through meditation. Switching off consciously does not mean that you should lie down and sleep.
It means much more that you take posture and pay full attention to relaxation to relax your body and, more importantly, your mind. During meditation you concentrate fully on yourself, you learn to consciously shut down your body and mind, recharge your batteries and then increase your productivity.

How can I learn to meditate?
Beginners often ask themselves: How do I start? You're in luck because this is a lot easier than you might think. First of all, as with any relaxation method, you look for one quiet placethat you can use to meditate. Turn off disruptive factors such as radio, TV or smartphone for meditation. And the most important: Find a time besides you really have a few minutes to yourself.
The right time to meditate is when you can take the time. For example, before or after work or if you have the opportunity, also during the lunch break. Often the meditation is also called Morning routine used. The best way to find out for yourself, however, is to just keep trying different times.
Above all else, the place should be quiet, but it should also be clean and tidy. Because even a messy room says that you still have to do something. When you are in the middle of this chaos, it becomes difficult to switch off properly. Find out how you can keep your apartment long term muck out.
Your posture should be relaxed but upright to stay focused. That is why it is wrong to lie down. It is better to sit up straight on a chair or on the floor in the tailor's or lotus position.
The duration of the meditation is basically irrelevant. Professionals sometimes meditate for up to 2 hours. No fear. This is how much time you have to invest to benefit from meditation. To start with, 5 minutes a day is enough.
Learning to Meditate: Instructions
1. Find your mantra
Now the real meditation begins. First of all, just pay attention to your breathing. To start with, it is enough to simply take 5 minutes a day to recite and internalize a certain mantra. do you say to yourself “let go” when you breathe in and “go” when you breathe out.
2. Feel your breathing
In the second step, feel how you slowly take in the air. Is it warm or cold? What does it smell like? How does it feel when the air rushes through your nose? And how does it feel when you slowly exhale the air again?
3. Feel your body
Once you have mastered this form of meditation, you can move on to the next level. Now concentrate on your body. What do you feel here? Warmth? Cold? Do you have any pain Try to concentrate consciously on each part of the body. Walk from the crown of your head piece by piece down to your feet.
4. Focus on your feelings
Next, you'll get to know yourself even better. Now you put your focus on your feelings. Try to feel exactly how you are feeling right now. Are you stressed? Relaxed? Angry? Sad? Or something else? Allow the feeling, learn to live it and then to dissolve.
After the successful meditation, you shouldn't go straight back to the way you did before. Remain in the relaxed position for a moment without focusing on anything in particular. Now slowly open your eyes again. Stretch out if you want and slowly get up again.
Does meditation still seem strange to you? This is quite normal at the beginning. The more you do it, the more familiar it becomes for you and so the positive effects become more and more easy. It is important: Better to spend 5 minutes a day than for 1 hour once a week.
If you've followed the previous steps, you should find meditation a lot easier. Nevertheless, problems can always arise, which is why you cannot meditate properly. These are the most common:
1. No time
Do you think you just don't have time to meditate? You don't need more than 5 minutes to get started. Even after this short time you will feel relaxed and will be able to perform better again afterwards. In the end, you will even save time this way. And let's be honest? 5 minutes less snooze or look at your smartphone and you already have time. To be really sure: So that you don't use “no time” as an excuse, it is best to talk to a meditation partner who is also new to it. This way you can motivate each other to really stick with it. It really works - I promise!
2. Too many thoughts
Another common problem that struggles for many beginners is recurring thoughts. Perhaps you have had this situation before: You want to meditate and concentrate your attention fully on one thing.
But there are always disturbing thoughts that have occupied and distracted you for a long time. This is completely normal. Just accept that these thoughts arise and consciously push them aside again so that you can then continue to focus on your mediation.
This technique is also perfect for dealing with negative thought patterns such as envy, anger, and self-doubt. These thoughts are quite normal. But you can disempower them by seeing them for what they really are. Thoughts that are produced in your brain, but don't have to be right.
Make yourself aware of that. And now decide what to do with those thoughts. Do you allow your thoughts to rule over you or do you control your thoughts?
3. Everything falls asleep or tingles
Another problem that occurs every now and then is body parts falling asleep. For example, if your foot falls asleep while meditating, it can be really annoying. Try other sitting positions until you find a position that's comfortable for you.
What is the goal of meditation?
