What does LC mean in fiber optics
Welcome to gbic-shop.de/blog
The LC-LC patch cable has become an important part of the network infrastructure for high-density cabling. In order for LC-LC fiber patches to come a long way, manufacturers have already developed LC-LC patch cables with different properties in order to meet the different requirements in data centers and to increase network performance.
Type of fiber optic patch cable that is required in Data Canters?
Today, fiber optic patch cords have had wide adoption in applications ranging from telecommunications to data communications. The fiber optic patch cord was the most suitable and widely used feeder. In order to meet the increasing requirements for higher density, bandwidth and easier management, more and more data centers are relying on fiber optic patch cables with high performance. Factors such as the high return loss, which leads to a low insertion loss of the connector and the loss of light from the fiber for the fiber optic patch cable, make it the best choice. Let's take a look at some popular LC-LC fiber patch cords that are trending in the data center.
Insensitive LC-LC patch cable with little insertion and bending
We have heard of optical light loss that occurs when a length of the fiber optic patch cord is connected to the network. These losses are of various types, among which insertion loss at the connectors and bending loss in fiber optic cables are the most common light losses that technicians attempt to overcome. LC-LC fiber optic patch cords can reduce these losses to a minimum.
Insertion loss occurs when one fiber optic component is inserted into another to make a fiber optic connection. LC connectors that are connected to the patch cable optimize it for a low insertion loss, which leads to an attenuation of less than 0.3 dB. For improved LC-LC patch cables, the power loss is even less than 0.2 dB. The core design and the low macro-bending sensitivity prevent additional bending losses. A special type of Rigid Fiber (BIF) is used in the fiber patch cord to reduce bending loss.
LC-LC high density patch cords
The LC connector was introduced for greater cabling density. Duplex LC-LC fiber optic patch cords can offer a higher cabling density than other duplex fiber optic patch cords. The cable diameter of the LC-LC patch cable is becoming smaller in order to increase the cabling density in the data center. The two plugs attached to each end of the duplex patch cord share the same plug. This Uniboot patch cable can thus offer a higher cabling density and the cooling environment in the data center.
Switchable polarity LC-LC patch cable
Low losses and high density are not enough to make LC-LC sophisticated and popular. Ease of use is also important. Polarity plays a major role in the installation of fiber optic patch cords, especially duplex fibers and MTP patch cords. It is easy to change the polarity of a duplex patch cord during installation. Often times a technician needs tools to change the polarity of a patch cord, but a polarity-switchable LC-LC patch cord makes things a lot easier, as the following images show.
