The domestic system catering market leader McDonald’s Austria continues to grow and achieved a turnover of 586 million euros in 2016. The successful year was marked by massive investments in the my burger concept, with which McDonald’s Austria is setting new standards for uncompromising freshness. In addition to the option to build your own burger, the largest catering partner in the local agricultural sector also introduced myMcDonald’s own bonus club for its guests.
Andreas Schmidlechner, Managing Director of McDonald’s Austria is satisfied with the past financial year: "We were able to continue our successful course in 2016, the year was marked by two major innovations: With my burger, our guests can now choose the ingredients of their favorite burgers in more than 150 Austrian restaurants. In addition, we have started our bonus club with myMcDonald’s, where guests can collect 'Ms' with every purchase and later redeem them for free rewards. With over 450,000 registrations in the first eight weeks, we are looking forward to a very successful start. With these innovations, we were able to further expand our innovation lead and look positively into the future.“
Kick-start for 2017: investments, new products, family focus
In 2017, McDonald’s Austria continues to invest in existing and new restaurant locations together with its 43 franchisees. Numerous product innovations await the guests of the domestic system catering market leader. The year started with the first product highlight at the beginning of January: The McDeal has four new burgers that offer particularly inexpensive options for lunch. The McDeal is supplemented by additional new creations based on Austrian tastes from McDonald’s product development every month.
At McDonald’s, 2017 will be all about families: The coming year will bring a diverse range of "vitamin kick", the extra portion of fruit in the Happy Meal. The children's Happy Meal menu will also be accompanied by a book as an add-on from February onwards, which young bookworms can choose from as an alternative to toys, cartoon characters, etc. The aim of the campaign is to encourage children to develop their language skills at an early age and to encourage them to enjoy reading.
McDonald’s creates 500 new jobs in Austria
Not only parents with their children will benefit from the service offensive of the Austrian McDonald’s restaurants in 2017: "We are looking for new employees for all locations across Austria and are expanding our teams. We are thus expanding the service in our restaurants and creating a total of 500 new jobs in 2017 - both in metropolitan areas and in rural areas“, Explains Andreas Schmidlechner. With currently around 9,600 employees, McDonald’s Austria continues to be the largest employer in the domestic gastronomy sector. In future, our own guest relations staff will take care of the perfect restaurant experience and the well-being of the guests. The specially trained employees help with the selection at the kiosk or bring orders to the table if necessary.
Strong partner for Austrian farmers
One of the most important success factors for McDonald’s Austria are ingredients from local production - with a supplier network of around 40,000 farms. This cooperation guarantees the best product quality and makes McDonald’s Austria the largest catering partner for Austrian agriculture. The M-Rind quality assurance program, which McDonald’s started twelve years ago together with ARGE Rind and OSI Food Solutions, also developed particularly successfully in 2016. Around 12,000 M-beef farmers are already taking part in the program and deliver beef to the system catering market leader if they meet high quality standards. In addition to beef at McDonald’s Austria, French fries, breakfast eggs and baked goods, milk and ice cream also bear the AMA seal of approval - it guarantees high quality, independent, strict controls and the traceable origin of the ingredients.
