Dr. The Ambedkar Institute of Technology (Dr. AIT ) is an autonomous engineering college on Outer Ring Road, Nagarbhavi, Bangalore, India.
Founded in 1979 by MHJayprakash Narayan and named after B. R. Ambedkar, the institute is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum and accredited by AICTE. It offers courses for graduates and postgraduates. The institute has been granted academic autonomy, which means it can set its own curriculum and conduct its own exams. C. Nanjundaswamy is the director of the college.
The institute is one of 14 colleges selected to receive World Bank support under the Government of India's Improvement in the Quality of Technical Education Program (TEQIP). The institute receives several grants approved by AICTE, DST and VTU. It is classified as autonomous by the UGC WEF 2010-11.
Dr. AIT started in 1980 with three branches with an intake of 120 and has now grown many times over. The institute has over 4000 students. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees.
Dr. The Ambedkar Institute of Technology is managed by the Panchajanya Vidya Peeta Welfare Trust. Dr. AIT is one of the proudest educational institutions among the 25 management-run institutions. The Institute was founded in 1980 by the late Sri MH Jayaprakash Narayan, Ex MLA and Founder, Managing Trustee of the PVP Welfare Trust and Secretary of the Institute. The Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology is one of the best engineering schools in Bangalore. The institute is located on the outer ring road near the Jnanabharathi campus in Mallathahalli, Bangalore, on 20.3 acres of land with multiple buildings, lawns, trees, etc. The total built-up area of these buildings is 39,619 square meters. The institute had 63 well-ventilated, large classrooms, 103 high-tech laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, a salon, a data center, an indoor sports complex, outdoor playgrounds and a gym. The institute library had 72,983 volumes with 16,574 titles, 112 national journals and 34 international journals. The digital library was linked to INDEST-AICTE for online journals via DELNET. The institute had separate hostels for boys and girls with a strength of around 900 and 600 respectively. The institute currently has 462 employees, consisting of 217 faculties, 142 technical staff and 103 administrative staff. In addition to numbers, the institute had BMTC buses that run through the institute. The syndicate bank located on campus supports the needs of employees and students. The college canteen serves vegetarian food and chat.

Department of Industrial Engineering and Management
The Industrial Engineering and Management Department was founded in 1984. The department was governed by the Karnataka Government's Grant Code in 1992, with an admission of 30 students per year. G. Rajendra heads the department.
ABIDE is the student group of the department created for the benefit of the students during the engineering course by providing industry interaction, student cultural and technical activities and mentoring.
Department of Information Science and Engineering
It has an intake of 60 students. The department came under the government aid system of Karnataka in 1992. M V Vijaya Kumar heads the department. The students won at the VTU festival (including one recently at the DSIT in Bangalore). The students work in organizations such as IISc, Siemens, NAL, HAL, ISRO, BEL, BHEL, WIPRO, LRDE, DRDO and. The department organizes guest lectures by industry experts.
The department consistently won the Maitri festival (welcome party for all departments) and was rated the best 7 out of 12 times.
Mechanical engineering department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering started the UG (BE Mechanical Engineering) program with an initial enrollment of 60 students in 1980 affiliated with Bangalore University. The current intake is 180. The research and development center was established in 2000 with recognition from Visvesvaraya Technological University. The faculties of the departments are involved in funded research projects and consultations. It also offers M.Sc Engg. through research and doctoral programs. The department started M. Tech programs in the area of machine design under VTU in 2013/14 with an admission of 24. The department is accredited by the NBA and was funded by DST, AICTE and TEQIP. The total grants from the funded research projects of various funding agencies in the past three years amount to Rs. 1.3 crores. In the past five years, the department published around 200 articles in magazines and 80 in conferences. The department has hosted many workshops, faculty and staff development programs, national seminars and conferences. It was the first to have a recognized research and development center for research activities. The Vijay Zaveri Composite Research Center is the first of its kind among local colleges. T.N. Raju heads the department.
A cultural festival called mAITri, where AIT stands for Ambedkar Institute of Technology, is held every year by the students in the freshman department.

The teaching staff consists of 7 professors, 5 associate professors, 2 asst. Professors, one lecturer for select classes, 11 lecturers for senior scale, and two lecturers. The average work experience of the staff is 16 years, with most senior managers in the department having 24 years of experience.
Three employees have a doctorate, eleven employees are doing a doctorate, five employees have a postgraduate course.
Employees are lifelong members of renowned professional associations such as ISTE, IEI, ICI, ISET, ACCE, IWWA and IGS etc. They are actively involved in the department's research and development activities and have submitted more than 35 articles and have submitted many publications to their credit. Some employees gave invited lectures.
The department has experienced and trained technical support staff.
The department has 8 laboratories with a total area of approx. 1426 m². All laboratories are well equipped with sophisticated equipment such as total station, automatic tilt level, triaxial shear tester, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, high volume air sampler, UTM and CTM, etc.
The department has a well-maintained data center. The latest software packages such as STAAD, STRUD, AUTOCIVIL etc. are available. A research center will be set up to carry out research work.
The department has received AICTE grants of approximately Rs. 53.5 lakhs under the Modernization and Elimination of Obsolescence, Research and Development, and Thrust Area programs. There is a good departmental library with more than 500 specialist books and project reports.
The department has funded around 100 lakhs from the World Bank under TEQIP, adding many more state-of-the-art equipment to the laboratories.
Student achievements and activities
The results last year are almost 100%. Six students have secured university rank. The department's Technological Club runs a technical program and the department promotes sporting activities.
Student visits are conducted in industries such as cement, waste disposal units, bridges and overpass construction sites, etc. The employees are involved in advisory work such as the planning of structures, soil investigations and material tests and have been hired as advisors by agencies such as the Karnataka Land Army Corporation.
The department's technology club runs engineering programs. The department promotes sporting activities. A festival called mAITri, where AIT stands for Ambedkar Institute of Technology, is held every year by the students in this department for freshmen.
Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Electronics
Established in 1980. The student intake is 120. The department is managed by B.V. Sumangala headed. She did her doctorate in the field of high voltage engineering at the IISc. The department was sponsored by the government of Karnataka in 1992.
The teaching staff consists of a professor, two assistant professors, six senior lecturers and two lecturers. The average work experience of employees is 10 years, with most senior managers in the department having 19 years of experience.
One employee has a doctorate and four employees are doing their doctorate. All employees are members of renowned professional associations such as ISTE and IEI.
The department has three laboratory rooms totaling approximately 7,200 square feet. The department has modernized three laboratories at a cost of Rs. 19 lakhs with AICTE grants under the MODROB program.
Students are sent on an industrial visit to various factories and power plant projects. 'Power Club' is the department's technical club. Many students present specialist articles at various universities.
The department organized a workshop for last year's students to improve their skills for training and internship activities.
Sayantan Bhadra (placed at INFOSYS, Bangalore) from 2002–2006 achieved IX rank (81.32%) in the VTU exams.

Meenakshi holds a degree from SJCE Mysore in Instrumentation Technology. She received her master's degree in controls, guidance and instrumentation from I. I. T. Madras and a PhD from the aerospace engineering department. I.I.Sc Bangalore in the area of controls & instrumentation. She has 20 years of teaching experience. She has published more than 15 research publications including international journals, international conferences, national conferences, workshops and seminars.
The teaching staff consists of 2 Asst. Professors and 5 lecturers. The average work experience of the staff is 9 years, with most senior managers in the department having 17 years of experience. 1 employee has a doctorate, 5 employees have a postgraduate degree.
The department has five laboratories with a total area of approximately 2,400 square meters. Ft. The department has modernized microcontroller and microprocessor laboratories at a cost of Rs.15.5 with AICTE grants under the MODROB program. The laboratories are equipped with Pentium IV computer systems, PICSTART plus programmer (target board 16F877 microchip), in-circuit debugger, PICKER-II starter kit, PIC microcontroller kit, PIC microprogrammer, 8051 microcontroller kit, 16F877- Microcontroller chips, microprocessor kits and interface modules. Modernized laboratories for digital signal processing, new laboratories for power electronics, data acquisition and control systems have been set up.
The project laboratory has excellent facilities for internal student project work. It is well equipped with Pentium IV computer systems with PCB design software, lith film photo camera, film inspection table, UV exposure, photoresist dip coating unit, PCB oven, spray etching machine, full screen printing unit, plate shearing machine, roller tinning machine and high speed drilling machine.
The Process Instrumentation Control Laboratory is also well equipped.
The telecommunications engineering department is headed by Prof. Yamunadevi C R. The Telecommunications Engineering Department was founded in 1991 with an intake of 30 students and a current intake of 60 students. UG program, department also runs PG and Ph.D. programs. The department has an R&D center that opened in 2010 and has 3 doctoral faculty members. The department has been accredited by the NBA. Many projects funded by AICTE, VGST and KSCST have been carried out by the department.
