What is embedded data

Open topic with navigation

The Embedded Data data source is the default data source for each new data source-based object that you add to your template using the menu Create or the Object toolbar Add. When using this data source, manually enter the data that the object should print. This data is then saved or "embedded" in the object and is printed with every printout of the object.

There are also two ways you can add a text object with an Embedded Data data source directly from the Toolbox. One way to do this is to add a simple text object that has an embedded data type of data source. You can also add a text object with an Embedded Data data source configured using a serialization transformation.

How to add a text object with an "Embedded Data" data source to the template

  1. Click in the Toolbox on the tab Data sourcesto the window Data sources to display.

  2. Drag the data source Embedded data out of the window Data sources to the place on the template where you want the object.

How to add a serialized text object with a data source of type Embedded Data to the template

  1. Click in the Toolbox on the tab Data sourcesto the window Data sources to display.

  2. Drag the data source serial number out of the window Data sources to the place on the template where you want the object. The dialog box Serialization will be opened.

  3. Specify the properties you want for the serialization transformation, and then click OKto close the dialog box.

You can see the properties of this data source on the property sheet Data sources of the dialog box Object properties configure. You can see an embedded data source in the navigation pane of the dialog box Object properties on the symbol . For more information about the properties you can specify for the data source, see Property Page Data sources.

You can also replace an existing data source with an Embedded Data data source or add an Embedded Data data source to an object's existing data sources. For more information, see Configure data sources.
