How to Convert Keynote to PowerPoint

Convert Keynote presentations to Microsoft PowerPoint, PDF, and other formats

To open Keynote presentations in other apps, first convert them in the Keynote app. You can also open Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and other types of files in Keynote.

You can open and convert presentations in Keynote on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. Use Keynote online at iCloud.com if you don't have an Apple device.

Convert a Keynote presentation to Keynote on your iPhone or iPad

If you want to open a Keynote presentation in another app, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, use Keynote to convert the presentation to an appropriate format.

  1. Open the presentation you want to convert and tap the "More" button.
  2. Tap on "Export".
  3. Choose a format for your presentation.
  4. Choose a sending method like Mail or the Messaging app for the presentation.

Open a file in Keynote for iPhone or iPad

To open a file, such as a Microsoft PowerPoint file, in Keynote on your iPhone or iPad, tap the file in the Presentation Manager. If you don't see the Presentation Manager, tap Presentations (on an iPad) or the Back button (on an iPhone). Then tap the file that you want to open. If a file is grayed out, it is not in a compatible format.

You can also open a file in Keynote from another app, such as the Files app, or an email:

  1. Open the other app, then select the file or attachment.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Tap "Copy to Keynote". The original file remains intact.

When you open the file, you may be told that the presentation will look different. For example, Keynote will notify you when fonts are missing. Tap Done to open the presentation in Keynote.

Convert a Keynote presentation to Keynote for Mac

If you want to open a Keynote presentation in another app, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, use Keynote to convert the presentation to an appropriate format.

  1. Open the Keynote presentation that you want to convert.
  2. Choose File> Export, then choose the format.
  3. In the window that appears you can choose a different format or set up additional options. For example, you can request a password to open an exported PDF, choose the format of an exported PowerPoint presentation, or adjust the timing of the presentation when you export a movie file.
  4. Click on "Next".
  5. Name the file and choose a folder to save it to.
  6. Click on "Export".

To send a file in a specific format via Mail, Messages, AirDrop, or Notes, choose Share> Send A Copy. Determine how you want the presentation to be sent, then choose a format.

Open a file in Keynote for Mac

In the Finder, Control-click the file, then choose Open With> Keynote. Alternatively, if Keynote is the only presentation app on your Mac, you can just double-click the file.

In the Keynote for Mac app, choose File> Open, select the file, then click Open. If a file is grayed out, it is not in a compatible format.

When you open the file, you may be told that the presentation will look different. For example, Keynote will notify you when fonts are missing. You may also see warnings when opening presentations created in older versions of Keynote.

Keynote for iCloud

Convert a Keynote presentation to Keynote for iCloud

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com with your Apple ID.
  2. Click on "Keynote".
  3. In the presentation manager, click the "More" button for the file you want to convert. Then select "Download a copy". Once you've opened the presentation, click the "Tools" button on the toolbar. Then select "Load a copy".
  4. Choose a format for the presentation. The file will be downloaded to the browser's default download location.

Open a file in Keynote for iCloud

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com with your Apple ID.
  2. Click on "Keynote".
  3. Drag the file that you want to upload to the presentation manager into the browser. Alternatively, click the "Upload" button, choose the file, then click Select.
  4. Double-click the file in the presentation manager.
