What is my hair type

Hair types made easy and how to recognize them

Hair is just hair? We clearly contradict this. There are numerous different typesall of which have their own characteristics and should be treated differently. But they all have one thing in common: properly cared for, they look beautiful.

Recognize hair types

Fundamental to determining the cut, color, care and styling is: what type of hair am i? Every hair has different needs and therefore needs a routine that is adapted to its structure and condition. The different hair types go from Type 1 to 4what the Structure of the hair describes. These then have gradations that in turn define the structure more precisely. Then another Statement about the thickness and the total volume of the hair to be hit.

Straight to frizzy hair

Let us start with the central criterion, namely the determination of the structure. A common method of determining hair is that Theory of hair typing according to Andre Walker. Here the subdivision begins as follows: straight hair, wavy hair, curly hair and frizzy hair. These are then subdivided again into a to c. You can see an overview in the picture gallery above.

Straight hair a lá Emma Stone

Straight hair can be of type 1a, i.e. straight hair without any movement - which is best kept sleek, as it is difficult to accept structural changes with heat tools. 1b is with something more movement and stance afflicted. The hair type 1c in which already a few waves and more movement - especially on the temples and neck - can be seen. All of these types are usually close to the head and remain in their natural shape - curls are difficult to arrive and for styling, products such as hair powder or dry shampoo are beneficial to maintain grip.

Wavy hair like Blake Lively

Wavy hair then starts from 2a. This guy's hair slightly wavy, loose and stretched. It is also still close to the head, but can already be processed more easily. Volume products are also useful again. With hair type 2b the hair is already curling morethen you see tighter wavessuch as the kind that a straight-haired girl with a braid receives overnight. A wide variety of wavy styles can be created from these waves, which stay in top shape with gel or mousse. From 2c the hair then gets individual curls and is clearly wavywhich is enhanced by curl defining cream and anti-frizz products.

Curly hair like Shakira

Curly hair is now divided into type 3a and 3b. The lighter variant (3a) means that you can spiral curls Has. The curls are well defined, springy when moving and are usually strongly influenced by the climate. If you straighten your hair, put one foot in front of the door and realize it's raining, do you panic? Do you immediately think of your fluffy hair, which will soon stand on end again? Then you are this type of curly hair. The stronger type (3b) indicates Corkscrew curls. Here the hair is clearly twisted and bounces happily around the head. We have already presented you with the so-called "Curly Girl Method" to achieve fantastic curls.

Frizzy hair like Queen Beyoncé

The last hair type that exists is curly hair. These are types 4a, i.e. very tight, extreme corkscrew curls, and type 4b what frizzy, voluminous hair describes. With frizzy hair, the correct structure and division into curls are usually no longer visible. With both types, it is advisable to use hair oil, hair butter or other moisturizing care products on a regular basis. You can also use the "Curly Girl Method" for this curl shape.

Hair thickness and volume of the hair

Hair thickness is divided into three sub-categories: fine hair (fine), medium thick hair (medium) and thick hair (coarse). Thin hair is very fine, you can hardly feel it between your fingers and it is as light as silk. Medium-thick hair can be clearly felt between the fingers, it lies in the hand like a cotton thread and is more robust. Thick hair is coarser and can even appear wiry. It stands out clearly from a tabletop or other surface. The total volume is then determined by the diameter of the ponytailthat is possible with your own hair. If it is less than 5 cm, you have thin hair (i). If it is between 5 and 10 cm, it means you have medium hair (ii). Thick hair (iii) is given if the diameter is more than 10 cm.

Individual code for each head

The Hair type is composed of structure, hair thickness and total volumeas we described to you above. This can then be used code which is your special password, so to speak, for proper hair care and determining the needs of your hair. For example, such a code could look like this: 1aFi or 3bMii or 3aFi.
