A 71-year-old German fell around 40 meters while hiking in Tyrol - and survived. The man from the district of Central Saxony in Saxony was taken to hospital with head injuries. As the police reported on Saturday, he first rolled over a steep meadow and rocky terrain and then remained unconscious in a stream bed. Due to bad weather, the rescue by helicopter was initially not possible.

Four mountain rescuers and two alpine police officers therefore climbed to the 71-year-old at an altitude of around 2000 meters. Later it was finally possible to fly the casualty into the valley with the emergency doctor's helicopter. The man was traveling down the valley with a German running group along the climb from the Söllerpass. The three companions had called the mountain rescue after the accident. After a brief improvement in the weather, they were also flown into Tal by helicopter.

Mountaineer from Hessen fatally injured in Austria

A 55-year-old German had a fatal accident while mountain climbing in Austria. According to the police, the man from the Wetterau district in Hessen had slipped on a wet trail on Saturday in Prägraten while hiking on the Alpenkönigweg. He fell around 300 meters in the rocky terrain in Tyrol. The man's companions immediately made an emergency call. The emergency doctor of the rescue helicopter could only determine the death of the 55-year-old.
