Design and display: for large or small hands

Apple uses an aluminum frame for the iPhone 11. The device scores with the 6.1-inch display and a resolution of 1792 x 828 pixels (326 pixels per inch). But at 194 grams it is not lightweight and not necessarily suitable for small hands. As usual, Apple uses a liquid retina display for the display technology. The iPhone Xs is a little smaller at 5.8 inches (2,436 x 1,125), a little lighter at 177 grams and shines with an OLED retina display.

Apple remains true to itself and also uses the notch in the iPhone 11. Apple first introduced the notch for the front camera and sensors in the upper display area on the iPhone X. In the new model, the notch is much smaller, so the screen can be used better.

Performance: A12 vs. A13 processor

Both iPhones come with processors that bring the smartphones to peak performance. The iPhone 11 works with a new chip - the A12 CPU is now followed by the A13 processor. The in-house Apple System-on-a-Chip is not only faster, but also significantly more energy-efficient. The speed allows photo editing in near real time. The iPhone Xs has been a trailblazer so far. In the heart of the Xs, the in-house A12 Bionic processor, whose six cores clock with up to 2.39 GHz, provides plenty of power. With the A13 processor, the iPhone 11 still sets itself apart.

Camera: duel of dual cameras

The new iPhone takes the best photos with the camera. Just like the 2018 model, the 2019 model has a dual main camera with a resolution of twice 12 megapixels. Wide-angle photos are now going to be ultra-wide. The ultra wide angle sensor has an f / 2.4 aperture and a 120 ° field of view, the wide angle sensor an f / 1.8 aperture. Thanks to the ultra-wide-angle camera, the redesigned surface shows what is happening outside the frame - and records it. During the video recording you can switch the zoom between the two cameras. Videos are just as easy to make and edit as photos. Also theTrueDepth camera is well equipped with 12 megapixels and f / 2.2 aperture. For the first time, the main and front cameras can record films in 4K.

The camera has definitely evolved: Because the iPhone Xs has a dual camera on the back, with both sensors also having a resolution of 12 megapixels each. In addition, the A12 chip provides advanced recording modes such as Smart HDR - the recording enhancement of light and shadow - as well as perfect depth control. The Smart HDR function also helps to produce well-lit photos in backlighting and other difficult lighting situations. A 7-megapixel front camera with portrait mode and a bokeh effect sits on the front of the iPhone Xs. Here Apple has added a 12 megapixel front camera. Selfies are even better with the iPhone 11 thanks to six new effects (natural, studio, contour, stage, stage mono, high-key mono).

Battery and storage: iPhone 11 vs. iPhone Xs

The iPhone Xs scores with the storage capacity. There are 64 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB variants. With the iPhone 11 you can choose between the sizes 64 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB. With the new 128 GB version, Apple still offers a good middle ground, but the large storage version is instead dispensed with, despite everything there is enough space for personal pictures and videos. With the iPhone 11 you can call for up to 25 hours. The iPhone Xs offers 20 hours of talk time, which is a bit less. Here the point goes to the new device.

Conclusion: understood customer requirements

Apple has made a slight leap forward with the 2019 model. The size of the device could be the icing on the cake when making a purchase decision. The iPhone 11 convinces with a large display and a super-fast processor, a large storage capacity and an excellent camera - but the iPhone Xs is only a little behind. The iPhone 11 camera is one of Apple's best dual cameras. Compared to the Xs, Apple has upgraded the camera again.
