Who are your favorite teenage DC superheroes

The "Justice League" gets a new comrade: the next DC superhero gets his own film

A film project about Blue Beetle was circulated for the first time in 2015 - at the time as part of a team-up movie. About two and a half years ago it became known that DC and Warner wanted to give the superhero Blue Beetle their own film in the DC universe. After that it was quiet about the project, but now things are moving again.

How TheWrap first reported Angel Manuel Soto ("Charm City King") takes over the direction of the superhero film "Blue Beetle" based on a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer ("Scarface" remake, "Miss Bala"). Soto confirmed his commitment and referred to it TheWrap as an “honor” to be able to take over the “first Latino superhero film for DC”.

Because, as was already revealed in the first announcement in 2018, Blue Beetle does not appear in its original incarnation as police officer Dan Garrett from the 1950s and also not in the reinvention as entrepreneur Ted Kord from the 1960s, but as the version which has been part of the DC Universe since 2006.

Since then, Jaime Reyes, a teenager with Mexican roots, has borne this superhero name. In the comics, Jaime finds the Blue Beetle scarab on the way home from school and takes it home, where it comes to life and attaches itself to its spine. The scarab gives Jaime the ability to wrap himself in blue, alien armor and can be used to create various weapons, gadgets or even wings.

By the way, the Blue Beetle character served Alan Moore as inspiration for his hero Nite Owl in “Watchmen”.

Crossover with Wonder Woman, Superman and Co.?

It is not yet known what plans DC and Warner exactly have to let Blue Beetle meet other heroes and heroines. A big "Justice League" crossover is no longer planned for the time being, but there should always be small joint appearances by characters in order to benefit from each other's popularity.

In the comics, the character belongs to the "Justice League" and fought for example in the animated series "Justice League Action" alongside Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and Co., but we have a different one, so far rather unknown Figurine for a suitable partner of Blue Beetle.

In the comics, Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker is a kind of mentor for Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle. Played by wrestling star John Cena, this character will soon not only be introduced in "The Suicide Squad", but will also have its own "Peacemaker" spin-off series on "Guardians Of The Galaxy" director James Gunn is working.

Since Warner has big plans for the Peacemaker and apparently assumes that the audience wants to see more of the character, he would be the ideal crossover candidate for a "Blue Beelte" film due to his comic history.

Part of the large DC expansion

Another such crossover has just become known. An actress for Supergirl was found in Sasha Calle, who made her first appearance in "The Flash" before her own films followed. It is no coincidence that there are just so many DC announcements after the start of “Wonder Woman 1984”, which can now be seen on Sky in Germany before its cinema release.

Warner and DC plan to launch a major attack on competitor Marvel. As early as 2022, up to six DC films are to be released per year - four in the cinema, two on its own streaming service HBO Max.

Next up is James Gunn's "The Suicide Squad" (planned German theatrical release: August 5, 2021), in 2022 next to "The Flash", among others, "The Batman" as well as "Black Adam" and "Aquaman 2" consequences.

It is not yet known when “Blue Beetle” could appear. However, we think it is likely that it will be one of the six projects for 2023. That also fits with the circulating schedule: Allegedly, Warner and DC should consider starting shooting in autumn 2021 ...
