Attempt at self-expression

Especially abroad, my name quickly becomes a difficult task for the mouths of others. I get new names and each time I become a different one. All the encounters that I experience go into me and shape me - sometimes more, sometimes less - into who I can be.
What do my age, the degrees and exhibitions that I have completed and which are supposed to provide information about my reputation actually say about me?

In art, I look for the most powerful access to my counterpart, in order to discover something connecting in one another through exchange, which can survive this moment and change the reality between us.
In “The Grand Beauty Salon” I work with a cosmopolitan ensemble on the vulnerable, outer limits of people. Where everyone negotiates with themselves about beauty and flaws on a daily basis and their own self-image becomes manifest.
As a rule, you can't see what's behind a mirror.
“The Grand Beauty Salon” should be a place of social equality, where different, culturally shaped ideas of beauty meet and we can learn more about others and ourselves by exchanging intimate insights.

Beauty Action Center

How do women in India practice their struggle for gender equality
and how does it show itself in its external appearance?

BEAUTY ACTION CENTER is an intervention that I will initiate as a nomadic, pop-up place with the Blank Noise Movement in Bangalore. Based on the approach of the »Grand Beauty Salon«, I would like to attract local beauty experts to create a safe space together in which we can exchange our experiences - of being women in patriarchal dominated societies - and with female stereotypes through self-determined inventions our own self-images, to be able to clean up

The discourse in Germany about sexual harassment in India is heavily influenced by the way the mass media report on it.
What is the real situation like in India?
After the events of New Year's Eve 15/16 in Cologne and the successful "No means No" campaign, which sparked off in the Lohfink case, attacks on women were again in the headlines of the German media. In our world, too - despite the emancipation of women - there is a need to increase awareness of the subtlety of sexual harassment (by men, regardless of their cultural background) and to take targeted action against it. Within the framework of the BEAUTY ACTION CENTER I would like to gather experiences that encourage and further infect those who oppose the injustice that happens to women worldwide and say "No, I did not ask about it!"

Final report

Jasmeen, Vira, Vasundhara, Eeshita, Rishita, Chitra welcomed me so warmly that I immediately felt at home in Yelahanka (north of Bangalore). Since the BN office is located on the Srishti Heritage Campus, I was quartered in a beautiful residential complex nearby (which had its advantages and disadvantages - the drive to the center usually takes an hour or more).

But the most important thing for me was the interest of the BN Action Heroes in my approach and the motivation to help me with personal and practical information. I was always able to come, whatever it was, and had at least one open ear. I want to thank everyone I've come in contact with for taking me to your favorite salons, sharing personal experiences with me, and making me a part of your life for this limited period or even beyond. Thanks to the BN Action Heroes I met, my Yelahanka house friends, various beauty professionals I learned from, the Vimochana feminists, us and ours MEHENDI happening welcomed with open arms the various women who made this possible and so rich, my friends in Bangalore, who made me feel at home and who gave me honesty.
However, it should be known that Blank Noise is an NGO (that does political work through artistic means) run by a 2 person team, which means that you are most likely the one involved in BN activities can be that they have the capacity to get involved in your work as well.
