Apple no longer makes the Macbook

12-inch Macbook is no longer available: Thanks for nothing, Apple!

Without warning, just like that: Apple has removed the 12-inch Macbook from its store. This means that the most compact Macbook will disappear from the market, which was especially suitable for frequent travelers and students. Thanks for nothing, Apple. A comment.

The practical 12-inch Macbook was first presented by Apple in 2015. It was thin and light, had a responsive keyboard, the thinnest Retina display yet, and all day battery life.

In short, it was the perfect Macbook for the frequent traveler, writer, student, and business person. And now Apple has crushed it. Just because.

Apple is removing 12-inch Macbooks from the store

Of course, the Macbook wasn't perfect. Even then, Apple relied on the USB-C connection for data transfer, video output and charging in a single connection.

This is practical in and of itself, but the rest of the technology world was and is not yet ready for this step. This can already be seen from the fact that there are very few monitors with a USB-C connection on the market, for example. So far we still have to work with numerous adapters.

Nonetheless, the 12-inch Macbook was a very good device that could always be accessed quickly. It weighed less than a kilogram and was more suitable than any other Macbook for working on the go.

But instead of further developing the Macbook and giving it another performance update, Apple simply removed it from its store.

Perhaps to provide more order and clarity. Perhaps in order to focus on a smaller product range. In any case, it is clear that the disappearance of the 12-inch Macbook means a loss for many users.

Apple updates Macbook Air and Macbook Pro

Of course, that sounds dramatic - especially when you consider that Apple has updated the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro. The former now has True Tone technology in the retina display for a more natural viewing experience.

In addition, the price for the Macbook Air has been reduced to around 1,250 euros. Students also receive an education discount.

The entry-level MacBook Pro comes with the latest eight-generation quad-core processors, which is why it is twice as powerful as before. It is available for around 1,500 euros. Apple announced this in a press release.

The 12-inch Macbook is not easily replaceable

But the 12-inch Macbook only weighed about a kilogram, and the profile was also slimmer than that of other models. The Macbook Air weighs only 250 grams more, but that's exactly what you can feel in the bag.

Especially when you are out on your bike, for example, or meet friends in a café and then take a leisurely stroll through the city.

The current Air and Pro models are not an alternative for the Macbook. And the device simply cannot be replaced by an iPad.

Because whoever uses the Macbook primarily for writing will certainly not be satisfied with an iPad including an additional keyboard. The feeling is just not the same.

And if you also have requirements for a retina display, you would have to switch to the expensive iPad Pro. The 11-inch model is only available from 879 euros, the larger 12.9-inch model from 1,099 euros.

And even with that, we wouldn't get our compact 12-inch display back. It's a shame, Apple.
